abstract = "Water is a key resource for human well-being, furthermore,
essential for agricultural production systems and socioeconomic
maintenance. In the Goi{\'a}s state one of the economic bases is
agriculture that uses predominantly surface water for irrigation
purposes. Besides, urban supply also depends on surface water,
resulting in a competition that may lead to the development of
conflicts within the influence area of catchment basins. Given
this, in this paper we analyzed the expansion of center pivot
irrigation in catchment basins for supplying urban water demand in
the Goi{\'a}s state, aiming to mapping the risk of water
conflicts. Landsat TM and OLI images were used to map some years
(1984, 1990, 1996, and 2015) and others were obtained from the
                         governmental database (2000, 2003, 2012, and 2013). From the 185
identified areas, 45 of them presented that type of irrigation
system. In the first date (1984), these basins comprised only 200
ha irrigated by center pivots, however in 2015 the irrigated area
expanded to 33.800 ha. On the other hand, water demand for
irrigation only exceeded the maximum granted in the S{\~a}o
Jo{\~a}o da Para{\'u}na basin (125%). Other five basins were
demand between 40% and 60% of the granted volume. In the remaining
basins (39), the water demanded for irrigation was less than 40%.
These facts show that center pivot irrigation systems has not
caused pressure on these areas, as long as the current legislation
                         and government methodologies are applied.",
